Our breaking news that were covering, this week will be critical more than 14,000 firefighters battle 17 major fire complexes sparked by lightning storms burning mostly in Northern California. The wildfires caused at least seven deaths statewide and destroyed at least 1,200 homes. And in the bay area there is a lot of ground to cover. Our team once again covering every inch of it this morning. Today in the bays Cierra Johnson is live in wine country where workers were nervously hunkered down there. But we begin with kris sanchez in Santa Cruz County. Were actually hearing from an evacuee. Reporter yeah. Weve been hearing a lot of these harrowing stories of how fast people had to pick up and leave. Sheriffs deputies are still looking for four people who are missing, reported missing from the evacuation area. That means no one knows whether they made it out or not. Maybe theyre among the 77,000 evacuees.

Between the union and the school board and the School District, it feels like from those those other entities, and i want to say that the purpose of this meeting was to figure out how the city can best support families and the School District and educators. Because i agree with the comments of Susan Sullivan that the caste that the educators have in front of them is so monumental. And it is difficult to roll out distance teaching and learning, which is what you are doing, and also at the same time to simultaneously provide for the needs of families to do what needs to be done in households to make that education work and meaningful. So what i see the role of the city is and i want to take my at off to maria sue and her staff and the mayor who stepped up and are trying to play a useful role in in the in one area of where families need help. Here we go, we are looking at our extreme heat continuing for us today and with it, with those daytime highs, likely tying or breaking records. We have some cooling centers open. Santa rosa will have them from 11 00 to 7 00 four people trying to get some relief from the heat at Rincon Valley library and the Salvation Army senior center. If you do go out there, you will need to wear your mask as well as social distance. In santa rosa, highs are in the triple digits. It is 104 in concord and around the bay, low to mid 80s. 80 for San Francisco and 86 for oakland. Because of this extreme heat, excessive heat warnings remain in effect due to this persistent and dangerous heat and it remains in effect not just for today but actually through 9 00 wednesday.
