Three candidates to be interviewed for UC Superintendent position

By Jim Measel Jun 10, 2021 | 7:35 AM (UNION CITY, MI) – Three Superintendent finalists will be interviewed Monday night by the Union City Community Schools Board of Education following a review of applications. Each candidate has been allotted an hour and 15 minutes to be interviewed by the board. The interviews will start at 5:00 p.m. with Union City Community Schools Chief Information Officer Chris Katz. Katz will be followed by Leslie High School Principal Todd Gonser at 6:15 p.m.. The final interview at 7:30 p.m. will feature Choice Schools Associates Chief Academic Officer Chris Ruiter. The Superintendent search process has been facilitated by the Michigan Leadership Institute.

Dense fog result in school closings and delays, visibility down to a quarter mile

By Jim Measel May 7, 2021 6:23 AM BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Dense fog which moved in during the early morning hours and reduced the visibility at the Branch County Memorial Airport to less than a quarter mile forced school districts to either delay classes on Friday or cancel them altogether. Bronson Community Schools closed for the day. Superintendent Steve Wilson said they closed because they were originally scheduled to have just a half day of classes. Union City Community Schools also closed for Friday. Superintendent Ronna Steele said in a post on the district’s Facebook page, “We have significant fog in our area this morning. We also have a large number of students that are already absent due to quarantine or illness. Considering these factors, I am going to cancel school for today, Friday, May 7th. Please take the time to rest, and we will see everyone Monday.”

Kindergarten registrations scheduled in Coldwater and Union City school districts

BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Community Schools will be holding Kindergarten and Young Fives registration for the 2021-2022 school year starting next Wednesday. Registrations is by appointment only for families with children who will be five-years-old on or before September 1, 2021. Children who will be five years old between September 1 and December 1, 2021 may be enrolled with a school readiness waiver. Registrations will take place at Max Larsen Elementary School every Wednesday between April 14 and May 5 from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m..

Classes resume for Branch County students on Monday

BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – It’s back to the books for Branch County students on Monday following a two week holiday break. Coldwater Community Schools will return to hybrid face-to-face and virtual instruction on Monday. Students with last names between A and K would attend classes in person on Mondays and Tuesdays and take virtual classes on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Students with last names between L and Z will take virtual classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays and attend classes in person on Thursdays and Fridays. Other districts in Branch County plan to return to in person learning in one form or another later this month.
