Launch of a new supplement in BMC Infectious Diseases on Point of Care Testing

Point-of-care tests are key to controlling and preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The UN Special Programme on Human Reproduction (HRP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have been working to ensure these tests are not only available, but also reliable. As such, HRP has coordinated the largest-ever project on field evaluations of STI diagnostics across 15 countries, 30 sites and including more than 17 000 participants.  This webinar will launch a supplement of seven journal articles in BMC Infectious Diseases entitled Point-of-care Testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections: results of an independent multi-country clinic-based and clinic-utility evaluation of STI diagnostics (PRoSPeRo project). The results of this work have already led to changes in the national policies of some countries.ProgrammeChairs: James Kiarie and Igor Toskin, UN Special Programme on Human Reproduction (HRP) and Department of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research (SRH), World Healt

New series highlights the importance of a positive postnatal experience for all women and newborns

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN’s Special Programme on Human Reproduction (HRP) have launched a new series on maternal and newborn care for a positive postnatal care experience in BMJ Global Health with six articles presenting evidence on the importance of understanding women’s, parents’ and health workers’ perspectives and a rights-based approach to strengthen quality postnatal care, for every woman and newborn, everywhere. The series of papers supports the WHO recommendations on maternal and newborn care for a positive postnatal care experience. This includes provision of essential care that all women and newborns need following pregnancy including how to identify anything requiring additional care, and how to connect those in need to services. Follow up care includes postnatal check-ups six weeks following delivery that promote a healthy lifestyle with good nutrition, detecting and preventing diseases, and ensuring access to sexual and reproductive health in
