Rex Patrick proposes bill to crack down on forced Uighur labour across China20/01/2021|6min
Independent Senator Rex Patrick has proposed legislation which would see the Australian government ban the import of any products where the supply chain utilises forced Uighur Labour across western China.
“We have to stand up,” Mr Patrick told Sky News host Rowan Dean.
He said the proposed bill would give the federal government a chance to “put rubber on the road” and join with international colleagues in making a statement about China’s “unacceptable” actions.
“There’s a lot of work that’s already been done by organisations such as the Australian Strategic Policy Institute that have delved into these supply chains and named the various different suppliers.”
