Top ten local attractions, as voted for by Bolton's foster carers

With the summer holidays in full swing, Bolton Council’s fostering team asked their foster families about their favourite local attractions. Foster carers become highly skilled in keeping children and young people of all ages entertained on sunny and not so sunny days and they are perfectly placed to provide their expert opinion on what makes outdoor visitor attractions great. Here are their top ten places to visit with the whole family: Moss Bank Park Coming in at number one was Moss Bank Park with the Hive, which offers a unique space made up of a series of gardens and natural play equipment. Designed with pre-schoolers and the under sevens in mind, it encourages young people to make lasting connections with nature through creative play including a restored mud kitchen, sensory garden and magical willow domes as well as a new water play installation.

Mystery man gives takeout cafe £100 so customers can have free coffee

It is one of our few pleasures and to get this free coffee today made our day. Mobile coffee vans and takeaway cafes are becoming more popular in lockdown with people seeking out somewhere they can go for a walk and a drink while sticking to the rules. The Around a Pound ‘horsebox’ coffee shop had become a fixture at the Jumbles reservoir – but has now had to move to Queen’s Park due to complains from some nearby residents. And Turton Tower is set to introduce parking charges later this year as its car park becomes more crowded with walkers, while the historic hall itself is shut.

REVEALED: Turton Tower set to bring in car parking charges

Exterior of Turton Tower PARKING charges are to be introduced at Turton Tower. The ‘low-level’ fees will be deductible from the price of the entrance ticket for the North Turton attraction.  The move follows concerns about damage to its car park by people walking on the surrounding West Pennine Moors. The historic hall off Chapeltown Road lies just over the border from Bolton and is run by Blackburn with Darwen Council.  It has become a popular spot for walkers during lockdown with the attached cafe also benefitting by serving takeaway hot drinks and cakes. The move, authorised by leisure boss Cllr Damian Talbot, will make the car park ‘pay and display’ and and will ban parking on Tower Drive.
