Hooper Bay, Alaska (KINY) - The Native Villages of Hooper Bay, Chevak and Scammon Bay, and Rural Alaska Community Action Program, Inc., (RurAL CAP) will commemorate the opening of Bay Haven’s developing Child Advocacy Center in Hooper Bay on May 16.
Men and women dressed in red. Alaska State Troopers, search and rescue, police, and firefighters came in uniform. People had signs reading “we stand as one”, “no more missing sisters” and “Native hope.” Others had red handprints painted on their bodies and t-shirts.
In Bethel, the Tundra Women’s Coalition provides a shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault throughout the region. The organization offers some lesser known programs as well.
