The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has formally announced on Wednesday, June 9, the inclusion of the Research and Development Leadership (RDLead) Program in its innovation landscape map.

The RDLead Program is one of the four sub-programs under the Science for Change Program (S4CP).
The DOST Innovation Landscape Map, on the other hand, was developed to showcase the reach of the various projects and programs of the DOST and its attached agencies.

DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña said they were supporting the setting up of the first NMR laboratory “outside NCR (National Capital Region) and Region IV-A for research and competency development in support of the Department’s drug discovery and development program.”
“The facility will be hosted at the University of San Agustin (USA) which is one of the institutions actively involved in the Tuklas Lunas Program being spearheaded by DOST through the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD),” he said during his weekly report on Friday, May 28.
He noted that several Balik Scientists are in the university and they possess extensive research and development (R&D) experience in drug discovery and development using NMR.

The Central Mindanao University-Tuklas Lunas Development Center (CMU-TLDC) is stepping up efforts to develop health products from some fern species in Mindanao, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has bared.
“Building on the outputs of their completed DOST-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) funded project, the CMU-TLDC is pursuing the development of health products based on the promising bioactivities and non-toxicities of some fern species in Mindanao,” DOST Secretary Fortunato T. dela Peña said in his weekly report on Friday.
