Lorry blaze melts road surface and shuts A47 through Leicestershire
Drivers were advised to avoid the area
A lorry caught fire on a major Leicestershire road this afternoon.
A blaze on the A47 near Tugby resulted in significant congestion and delays, with the road closed in both directions for several hours.
The fire was extinguished shortly before 1pm, however, damage to the road surface from the fire meant highways teams spent much of the afternoon carrying out any emergency repairs.

A lorry driver escaped unhurt after their trailer carrying coal burst into flames on a busy road in Harborough district today (Tuesday).
Firefighters raced to tackle the blaze after it started as the vehicle approached Tugby on the A47 as it headed east towards Uppingham.
The driver managed to get out of their cab and was uninjured but badly shaken up as the fire broke out just after 11am.
