Man freed from Scoular grain elevator east of Salina

A man was freed and taken to the hospital Thursday after falling into a grain storage facility and getting trapped. The incident happened early Thursday afternoon at the Scoular grain elevator on East Country Club Road, just east of Salina, next to Exline Inc. It sounds like the subject went into the tower to remove (a) clog, said Troy Long, fire marshal for the Salina Fire Department (SFD), which responded to the scene. Long said it appeared the man fell onto a grain mover system that pushed him into a 2-foot by 2-foot square area, and a conveyor belt shot him to the other side.

LEWISTOWN The need for emergency medical technicians is at a critical point on both a local and a national level. Local emergency agencies like Fame EMS in Lewistown are regularly looking to fill volunteer and career EMT positions, says Troy Long, paramedic at Fame, who is also the program coordinator and EMT instructor at The Mifflin County Academy of Science and Technology. “There is a severe shortage of EMTs and paramedics so we are well headed down the highway of a real EMS disaster in a few years,” he said. “The volunteer organizations are just like the career organizations. They can’t get enough manpower. They can’t hire enough EMTs or paramedics.”
