The deputy mayor of a southern Newfoundland town says his community is running out of food as it remains cut off from the rest of the island due to the worst forest fires the province has seen in more than 60 years.
While some travellers are stranded in Bishop's Falls or Grand Falls-Windsor along the Trans-Canada Highway, Harbour Breton on the island's south coast will go ahead with its Come Home Year celebrations. The main concern, says the deputy mayor, are possible supply shortages and medical emergencies.
