GREENFIELD The Massachusetts Association of Community Colleges has named three Greenfield Community College students Kimberly Day, Kellie Girouard and Brody Trott to its 2021 Phi Theta Kappa All-Massachusetts Academic Team. They are among 40 community college students in the state to receive the honor.
Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society of two-year colleges. Students who achieve grade point averages of 3.5 or higher are invited to join, according to a GCC press release.
After paying a one-time membership fee of $75, Phi Theta Kappa students have opportunities to build their leadership skills by organizing events, participating in conferences and serving as officers with their college’s chapter, or with the regional and national organizations, the release explains. They can also apply for exclusive scholarships.

GREENFIELD A typically private meeting at Greenfield Community College was subject to a “Zoombombing” last month that broadcast hate speech and offensive graphics, according to officials at the college.
The Zoombombing on Feb. 8 interrupted an All College meeting which typically is a private meeting held monthly with administrators, faculty and staff that was held to award the four annual Martin Luther King Jr. “Bright Lights and Living the Dream” awards, according to the GCC Professional Association, the union that represents faculty and educational professionals at the college. Because of that, the honorees and their guests were invited to the meeting.
