For the former president. what do we see trump doing? we see him threatening people, posting pictures, as if he was any other defendant in any other case, would cause a judge to speak to him sharply. there s always a bit of a special rule that seems to be applied to trump, but i think that s coming to an end. we saw that in the quick act in the court in d.c. i think we ll increasingly see courts that are out of patience with the former president. as you mentioned, the larger trendline that you can see. you both gave us very complex breakdowns. i want to do a lightning round, so about 30 seconds or so on the federal ruling in d.c. saying there s evidence that trump likely committed crimes, which is why they shredded the privilege. how do you rate that kind of ruling, first, joy?
It is fair to say based on the facts, it is very hard to conceive of a situation where the motive wasn t generated by hate. we are living in a time of rising hate and rising demonization. all of us in leadership positions have to recognize that our words matter. we can and we must have a more inclusive we the people. that is a phrase justice ginsburg used. the legitimization of hating toward lgbtq+ individuals has to stop. that was colorado attorney general phil weiser this morning. he is right. the club q attack appears to be a romantic of a surge in hate crimes nationally in recent years. it will be a while before we get this year s numbers. the fbi s most recent figures for 2020 show 7700 plus hate crime incidents. this was a 12 year high. if you break it down by victim, 20% of those incidents, 1 and 5 were targeted because of their sexual orientation. there are indications of this trendline is continuing.
