Treasurer Provides Financial Update and Latest Sales and Use Tax Numbers Since July is the first month of the fiscal year for the City of Sheridan, the monthly and year-to-date figures for sales and use tax are the same. City Treasurer Karen Burtis said they are up nearly 20 percent from this time last year. Karen Burtis Burtis also provided the Council with a preliminary financial update for the fiscal year that ended on June 30. Karen Burtis Burtis said the numbers are preliminary as the City will not finish out their fiscal year until the auditors arrive at the end of September.

A Significant Increase – Sheridan Media

During the monthly report to the Sheridan City Council on the latest sales and use tax numbers for the City, Treasurer Karen Burtis said that for the month of March, the City experienced a significant increase in sales and use tax when compared to last year. Karen Burtis Burtis said the monthly internet tax is up 49.8 percent or $12,841, and the year-to-date internet tax is up 42.7 percent, or $112,993, over this time last year.

Vote split on new city software – Sheridan Media

Sheridan’s City Council approved a new software system for the city, but the vote was split 4-2 after an unsuccessful effort to table the decision. Action came at the council’s meeting earlier this week. The vote divided over an issue of liability, with Councilor Jacob Martin voicing the question. Martin originally moved to table the matter pending a report to the Council by City Attorney Brendon Kerns on the liability question. That motion failed for lack of a second. City Treasurer Karen Burtis said she believed there was a clause in the contract regarding recovery, but she didn’t recall the details. The Council approved the purchase with a caveat that Kerns brief the Council on liability.
