Travis has successfully launched a DSME program in his pharmacy and has helped over 300 pharmacies navigate the DSME accreditation process.
Have you considered offering diabetes self-management education at your pharmacy? You can collaborate with prescribers to offer DSME to patients, and the market is wide open. Less than 5 percent of Medicare beneficiaries use their DSME benefits. Currently, one-on-one education pays $120 per hour and group education pays for up to 20 people at $28 per hour, per person. That’s a potential of $560 an hour, BUT you need to have an accredited site in order to bill Medicare. When seven patients complete the program, you’ve paid for your investment.
