COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 18 Ohio State men’s hockey team closed out the 2020 portion of its schedule with a 3-2 loss to Arizona State Friday in Value City Arena. Ohio State falls to 3-6-1 (3-5-0-0-1-0 B1G) and the Sun Devils improve to 4-6-2.
The Big Ten released the 2021 men’s hockey slate today and the Buckeyes will return to action Jan. 8-9, 2021 when they host Penn State in Value City Arena. The full schedule is HERE.
Arizona State 3, Ohio State 2 – The Short Story
The Buckeyes led 1-0 after the first period on a Layton Ahac power play goal. The Sun Devils tied the game at 11:33 of the second with a power play score but Ohio State’s Matt Cassidy answered just 50 seconds later to put the Buckeyes back ahead. Arizona State scored twice in the final five minutes of the period, with an even strength goal at 15:46 and power play tally on a major at 19:48 to tie the game and take the lead. COLUMBUS, Ohio –With three power play goals, the No. 14/rv Ohio State men’s hockey team rallied for a 3-2 victory at No. 15 Notre Dame in game two of a Big Ten series Sunday in Compton Family Ice Arena in Notre Dame, Ind. Quinn Preston had two goals for the Buckeyes, while Mark Cheremeta had a three-point game with a goal and two helpers and Travis Treloar picked up two assists.
The Buckeyes (3-5-0, 3-5-0-0-1-0 B1G) and Irish (4-4-0, 3-3-0-0-0-0 B1G) end the weekend with a split after a 3-0 ND win Saturday. Ohio State will close the first part of its season with home games against Arizona State Thursday and Friday in Value City Arena. Puck drop is set for 5:30 p.m. each night, with the games streamed through BTN Plus and on Ohio State radio.
COLUMBUS, Ohio The No. 14/rv Ohio State men’s hockey team is set for its final road games – and last Big Ten series – of the first part of the schedule when it takes on No. 15 Notre Dame this weekend. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. The games will be televised by NBCSN and available on NBCSports.com, as well as streamed in Canada on TSN.ca and on the TSN app. Tony Simeone and Kendall Coyne Schofield will call the action. The games will be on Ohio State Radio, with Herb Howenstine and John Mowat on the call.
