Burn ban lifted for unincorporated areas of Travis County

Burn ban lifted for unincorporated areas of Travis County By FOX 7 Austin Digital Team Published  TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas - The burn ban for the unincorporated areas of Travis County has been lifted. Even though the burn ban has been lifted, the Travis County Fire Marshal urges extreme caution when burning outdoors. Fortunately, wildfire danger is expected to decrease this week, thanks to cooler temperatures, increased rain chances, and elevated humidity levels, said Travis County Chief Fire Marshal Tony Callaway. The conditions have improved enough to lift the burn ban at this time. We’ll continue to monitor the weather conditions.

Officials: Burn ban issued for Travis County, expires April 7

Officials: Burn ban issued for Travis County, expires April 7 By Lauren Reid TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas - A burn ban has been issued for Travis County.  The burn ban goes into effect March 9 and will expire on Wednesday, April 7, unless further action is taken by the county judge or county fire marshal prior to that date. The historic winter storm we experienced last month led to a significant amount of vegetation dying or being freeze-burned. The dry vegetation, combined with high winds and low humidity levels, can be a recipe for disaster, said Travis County Chief Fire Marshal Tony Callaway. With gusty winds in the forecast in coming days, small fires can easily spread. Therefore, it’s necessary to issue a new burn ban.

Coronavirus Texas: Austin won't be allowed to restrict dining-in at restaurants, Texas Supreme Court says

AUSTIN, Texas (KTRK) The Supreme Court of Texas on Friday blocked Austin-area orders that restricted dining-in and drinking at restaurants through Jan. 3. The order followed a New Year s Day appeal by Attorney General Ken Paxton. Austin Mayor Steve Adler and Travis County Judge Andy Brown announced the orders on Dec. 29 in a bid to slow spiraling coronavirus infections and hospitalizations going into New Year s Eve. They were quickly challenged by Gov. Greg Abbott and by Paxton, who described the orders as needlessly oppressive. Both officials exhorted Texas restaurants to remain open in defiance of the orders, which were upheld by a district judge Thursday. In a further blow to the state, Texas Third Court of Appeals swiftly rejected an appeal later that night.
