The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (“TDCI”) and the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office honor the bravery, dedication, and sacrifices of Tennessee’s volunteer firefighters during Volunteer Firefighters Week (March 5 – March 11, 2023).
The first full week in March of each year is observed in Tennessee as Volunteer Firefighters Week in order to honor and recognize volunteer firefighters for their courageous and dedicated service.

The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) announced 147 volunteer fire departments in Tennessee will receive a grant.
Five workforce training efforts that are expected to serve Missouri counties, including Butler and the surrounding area, will receive more than $10 million in grant money. The funds have been awarded.
UPDATE: WGNS previously reported that the Rutherford County Fire Department was set to receive grant money that would be funneled into the various volunteer fire departments within the county. The funding was part of a massive $5-million grant however, it was later confirmed that Rutherford County was not included in the grant funds and was not eligible to apply for the money.
