the story of christmas is all about birth, of course, the birth of the baby jesus. but in many, many ways. for my family, christmas was a time for rebirth. and the reason for that was one year when i was five years old, just about to have my sixth birthday. my father passed away, and that was a month before christmas. and of course, the tragedy hit our family very, very hard, not the least of which reasons was because my mother, who had been a stay at home mom, suddenly had to keep a roof over the heads of myself, my sister and my brother. she hadn t really done that before, so she was at somewhat of a loss to figure out how she was going to keep the roof over our heads. and of course, with christmas just a few weeks away, how she was going to maintain the spirit of christmas for us at our household. but god bless her, she was able to do it. and not just that first year where she had the happiest christmas she possibly could.
