“We are in a crisis in North Carolina in terms of affordable housing,” Edwards told Land of Sky Regional Council members last week. “It is rare that I speak to any group of folks where I’m not asked, ‘What are we going to do about the housing in this state?’”
Edwards’ solution, which he says could make buying a home affordable for 1 million North Carolina families, is not going over well with towns in Henderson County or the North Carolina League of Municipalities.
The bill requires cities and counties to permit duplexes, triplexes and quadplexes in all residential districts, including those currently zoned for single-family homes. It also requires local governments to allow an accessory dwelling unit on a lot occupied by a detached single-family home and restricts local government’s use of conditional zoning.

Beauty bar moves from New York to Brookfield

BROOKFIELD The town’s newest beauty bar is open for business.
The owners of LUXE Beauty Bar, originally located in Carmel, N.Y, decided to move to Brookfield after realizing much of their client base lived in the Danbury area and have been busy renovating their store during the coronavirus pandemic, a press release said.
Vanessa and Hector Fernandez cut the ribbon at 849 Federal Road alongside Jim Fisher, chairman of the Economic Development Commission.
The beauty bar will offer waxing, skin and body treatments, make-up sessions, deep cleaning, and skin rejuvenation treatments to male and female clients, according to the press release.

BROOKFIELD Residents voted unanimously in favor of Phase 4 of the town’s Streetscape Project at a special town meeting Tuesday night.
“I think that’s a good signal, a strong signal to the town that we’re on the right track here with our revitalization plan in our Town Center District,” said the town’s economic development manager Greg Dembowski who has been heavily involved in the project.
