A Toronto Police Service superintendent entered a lounge with a licensed fully-stocked bar in police headquarters about three hours before he crashed his service-issued SUV into another vehicle in Pickering, Ont., and was charged with impaired driving in January 2022, CBC Toronto has learned.
Amid increased public scrutiny for how law enforcement handles calls for people in the throes of a mental health crisis, Toronto police officials have temporarily suspended the specialized deployment of some officers who are trained to assist on these kinds of calls.

London police Const. Wesley Reeves has spent more than one-third of his nine-year policing career on paid suspension.
Reeves, 35, was suspended in 2017 after he was charged with five criminal offences, but those charges were dropped after he signed a peace bond. Then in October 2019, he was ordered to resign or be fired after pleading guilty to five professional misconduct counts for abusing drugs and misusing an internal police database.

But he appealed that decision allowing him to keep collecting a salary and remains a London police employee as the process drags on.

The zero per cent increase for 2021 is being touted as “transformational.” But the creative accounting to arrive at a $1.076 billion figure amounts to “kicking the can down the road” for another year when it comes to the hard budget questions, which staff acknowledged under questioning from board members. Staff also identified the inability to draw on dwindling reserve funds to cover future budget costs as a growing concern.
