It’s now been a year since I began this weekly column. I am grateful for the opportunity. When I suggested the idea to Jean Ann Miller, our tireless editor, she readily embraced it. The idea was based on a radio show that I used to host in Asheville, NC, called Wild Heart. I interviewed people in the community, inviting them to share their stories their dreams and challenges, their way of life.
As with this column, it was a weekly endeavor. It kept me on task, finding a guest for each show. Only once, did someone not show up. I’d had a funny feeling before I left for the station that day and so grabbed my binder of poetry in case I might need it.
Traditions passed through the generations

Memories of Christmas
One of the beautiful things about Christmas is the traditions new and old that get passed along through the generations. Memories are created with each passing year. I checked in with a few folks I’ve interviewed over the past year to invite their reflections on Christmas personal meanings and memories that they may have.
For Eileen Mullins, owner of Sir Renna Tea in downtown Lincoln, Christmas is a time for family and feast. Being centrally located, Eileen hosts the gathering, with children and relatives arriving from Chicago, St Louis, and beyond. It is a time to eat, play games, and simply enjoy each other’s company.
