Blackhawks Future in Net Still Just a Handful of Maybe

The Chicago Blackhawks went into the 2021 season without a legitimate starting goaltender at the NHL level. They came out of the 2021 season … basically in the same position. Kevin Lankinen emerged as a solid NHL-caliber goaltender in his rookie season, but he wasn’t able to keep his hot start to the season going all year long. Malcolm Subban and Collin Delia performed at the level you would have expected out of them, but neither fully took the reins as a long-term solution (as a starter or backup) for the organization. With all three goalies signed through the end of next season, it appears that the trio will again be called upon for one of them to fully take hold of the starter role next season.

Celebrating athletes, and opportunities seized

Celebrating athletes, and opportunities seized By Norwich University Athletics Hockey players sweep Coach Mariano Award as outstanding senior athletes of 2021 Men’s hockey forward Felix Brassard and women’s hockey defenseman Samantha Benoit were named outstanding senior athletes of 2021 last week at a picnic in Andrews Hall. President Dr. Mark Anarumo and Athletic Director Anthony Mariano hailed student-athletes and distributed awards at the April 29 picnic, which replaced a traditional awards dinner and had been scheduled for Sabine Field until rainy weather intervened. Anarumo said he understood the hurt of having an athletics season scrubbed by the pandemic, partly because he saw his son Mark Jr. lose his senior season of Division III ice hockey at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Anarumo said his son’s team lost a chance to contend for a national title and his son lost a chance to visit Europe with the armed forces all-stars.

But when the final buzzer blared, the Indy Fuel had outscored Fort Wayne 6-3, in front of 3,111 restless fans at Memorial Coliseum. “It s a frustrating loss,” Komets coach Ben Boudreau said. “But if you re going to lose, you want to lose playing the right way. I thought our effort was there. It seems like they capitalized on every single chance that they got. But I thought we skated them into the ground. Their goalie was pretty good, but we ve just got to find a way to regroup and win the series (today).”

Kozun Closes Door on Indy | News Radio 1170 WWVA

WHEELING, WV- On Thursday night, the Wheeling Nailers won with offense. On Friday night, they turned to defense and goaltending to get the job done against the Indy Fuel at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Taran Kozun stood on his head with 36 saves to pick up his second straight win, while Nick Rivera and Austin Fyten lit the lamp in the second period, giving the Nailers a 2-1 victory on the road. After a scoreless first period, the offenses opened up a bit in the early stages of the middle frame. Wheeling got on the scoreboard first at the 4:22 mark, utilizing a power play. Jacob Pritchard tossed a shot toward the goal, where Nick Rivera pounded away at the loose puck to collect the marker. The Fuel drew even 1:24 later, when Chad Yetman came in on the rush and zipped in a low shot from the right face-off dot. The Nailers bounced right back to grab the lead back just 2:52 after that. Kyle Marino touched a pass into the slot for Austin Fyten, who lifted his team-leading 16th goal of the
