PUEBLO â School districts in Pueblo are sticking with their policies when it comes to masks.
Pueblo School District 70 said it s hard to tell who has and hasn t been vaccinated, so to be on the safe side, they are sticking with masks through the end of the school year. In order to keep things consistent across all grade levels, we are just going to continue our policy of asking staff and students to continue wearing masks in the schools although outside you can take off those masks off when you are doing outdoor activities, Todd Seip with Pueblo School District 70 said.
Pueblo School District 60 and Pueblo County School District 70 announced they will be keeping COVID protocols in place for the remainder of the academic year.
A rise in COVID-19 cases among Colorado s youth is being felt at four Pueblo School District 70 schools that have shifted back to remote learning to slow the spread of the disease.
Randy Evetts, public health director at the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment, spoke at the district s board meeting on Tuesday to address the recent rise in COVID-19 cases in the county.
Members of D70 s board of education heard from Evetts about how the county has experienced low vaccination rates among its residents and how the county s rate of people getting the vaccine is lower than other parts of the state.

PUEBLO â Some parents and students in Pueblo School District 70 have had enough with the current mask mandate in schools.
During Tuesday s school board meeting, they gathered outside to protest and voice their opinion against the mandate. But it was a tense start as only 35 people were allowed in the room due to capacity restrictions. I didn t come here to speak but once they were so rude and tried to block the parents from speaking, that s when I felt like I had to say something, said Lexie Mater, Pueblo School District 70 parent.
Pueblo County School District 70 is expressing concerns about a recent rise in COVID-19 cases among students in the district.
The increase in cases has led to exposures of students at nine of the 21 schools in the district.
One of the major exposures was at Rye High School, where the school closed completely and returned to online learning due to a large number of students having to quarantine. We are concerned there is a lack of testing for variants in the community. There seems to be some extra steps needed in order to do that, said Todd Seip, public information officer at D70. This is something we are tracking.
