A man was left seriously injured after he was attacked by a sloth bear in a forest area in Tamil Nadu. Two people who tried to rescue him were also seriously injured and are undergoing treatment at a local hospital, the police said.

Relatives of murdered priest stage road roko
Seven persons wanted in connection with the murder of a temple priest near Seevalaperi in the district on Sunday have surrendered before police.
Earlier, demanding immediate arrest of the armed gang that murdered the priest, Chidambaram, 45, and grievously injured his friend, Nataraja Perumal, 53, relatives of the victims and members of the Yadava community staged road roko near Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital on Monday.

A temple priest identified as Chidambaram Durai, 45, of Sudalai Swami Temple at Sivalaperi near Palayamkottai was murdered by an armed gang on Sunday.
Another person identified as Natraja Perumal, 53, who was with the priest, suffered multiple injuries and was admitted in Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital.
Police said that every year, on April 14, marking the Tamil New Year, vendors from far and near would come to the temple and put up temporary shops anticipating a large turnout of devotees. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there were some issues this year.
Under such circumstances, an armed gang attacked the priest, who died on the spot.

Close to 1500 beds are ready to treat patients, who tested COVID-19 positive, in the government medical college hospital and at three other COVID-19 care centres, said Collector V Vishnu here on Tuesday.
After inspecting the facilities at the hospital, he told reporters that at the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital (isolation ward/block) can take in 1,240 patients, Government Siddha Medical College (200), Swami Sivanandha Charity Centenary Hospital Pathamadai (110) and GH Koodankulam can accommodate 115 patients.
There was no need for panic but the public needed to be cautious. He said that ₹ 29.76 lakh had been collected by way of fine from violators since March 1. The objective was not to penalise or inconvenience the people but it was a message to others to follow rules.
