But then about two hours later, two officers knocked on our door and told us we needed to evacuate since our apartment faces its actually directly across the street from the Police Headquarters parking lot and thats where they found a few of the explosives so since our apartment is all windows on that side they told us we need to evacuate and everybody else on that side had to as well. Suspects in the black van struck the Police Squad Car and opened fire on officers. That crash and shootout happened outside Police Headquarters in dallas texas. The officers then chased the van into the town of hutchins where there was another shoot outin a parking lot. Overnight it was said that no officers were injured but bags had been found with pipebombs. Joining me now is nbc news correspondent Charles Hadlock. What do we know about the man inside the van . Last weeks Police Shooting death of this young man in cleveland, 12yearold tamir rice, shows why this is such an important step. A 911 caller reported seeing him waving and pointing a gun outside a recreation center. But said it was probably fake. Its probably fake but, you know what, its scaring the [ bleep ] out of me. Hes probably a juvenile, you know. Hes pulling it. The caller was right, it was fa fake, a pellet gun, and he said that rice was probably a juvenile. But heres what the Police Dispatcher told the officers heading towards the scene. Theres a black male sitting on the swings. Hes wearing a camouflage hat, a gray jacket with black sleeves. He keeps pulling a gun out of his pants and pointing it at people. No mention that the gun might be fake. No mention that rice was probably a juvenile. And then the Police Response gets even worse.
Protests have continued since we all learned the news monday night for which we have been waiting for more than 100 days. The st. Louis county grand jury decided not to indict officer Darren Wilson for sohooting and killing Michael Brown. In a rambling half hour speech delivered well past night fall, prosecutor Bob Mcculloch said theres no doubt he shot Michael Brown to death. Theres no question when he died Michael Brown was unarmed. But mcculloch intimated there were many more questions. Questions that only the grand jury has the privilege offed a jute kating because only they had seen all the evidence and heard all the testimony, and they, he told us, decided there was no crime in this killing. Nothing for which to indict officer wilson. Yes, Michael Brown is dead, but that is not, they decided, a criminal act. And what father or mothered was pain. We begin in ferguson, missouri where officer Darren Wilson has resigned. Now that comes nearly one week after a grand jury decided not to indict him in the Fatal Shooting of Michael Brown. Wilson told the st. Louis post dispatch that he decided to resign after threats to the police department. Is he said it was my hope that the community would heal. I would like to thank all my supporters and fellow officers throughout this process. Were hearing from many protesters. Many are saying he should have redined a long time ago.
