Chloe always loved the idea of the military, and was deployed to Afghanistan for the first time in 2010 when her vehicle struck an IED, physically wounding Chloe and causing a traumatic brain injury. She received a Purple Heart for her bravery. After President Obama moved to undo the ban on open transgender military service, Chloe took the opportunity to become her authentic self during her second deployment, transitioning and becoming the first transgender woman to openly serve in a combat position in the United States Army.
