Still time to sign up to be part of Newark and Sherwood District Councilâs Community Lottery

Good causes still have time to submit their group to be part of Newark and Sherwood District Councilâs Community Lottery.
The council is among the first local authorities in the country to launch the scheme, which has a top prize of £25,000.
For every £1 spent by players, 60p will go to local good causes.

Cost of renting in Newark and Sherwood set to increase

After four years of reductions, the cost of renting in Newark and Sherwood has increased.
The district councilâs unanimous decision to increase the housing revenue account budget follows losses of £11m over the previous four years.
Councillor Tim Wendels said it was important to increase the price of renting by 1.5% to boost the budget.

âWe went through a difficult period between 2016-17 to 2019-20 when we were made to reduce our rents by 1% each year and that resulted in a significant loss of income.
Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to provide extra support to get homeless off streets in Newark and Sherwood

Extra support is to be made available for the homeless in Newark and Sherwood thanks to a government grant.
The district council has secured £22,846 from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to provide additional support and advice for homeless people and rough sleepers through the governmentâs Next Steps Accommodation Programme.

The money will be used to provide winter night shelter provision to all those identified as rough sleeping in Newark and Sherwood between November 2020 and March 2021.
