it comes after cnn learned that he was threatened with being ousted by threat got started. joining us now, tim neftali and white house correspondent and associate editor for politico. anita cue mar. tim, start with mulvaney and the drama around this latest acting white house chief of staff. do you think his job is safe given wher in an impeachment inquiry and he could become a star witness? well, president trump doesn t like to admit mistakes. if he were to fire mulvaney right now, apparently he was on his way out before the impeach. inquiry started. if he were to fire him now, this would raise all kinds of questions, more questions about the quid pro, mulvaney s admission that there would been a quid pro quo. you don t need one for the
touch with rudy. you re going to love him, trust me. we are now learning on whether house republicans plan to sennture schiff. what are the implications of that? since they re in the minority, probably not too much, but there are a lot of republicans obviously on capitol hill but close to the president who feel that chairman schiff went too r far. if he had a good case, why would he use that language and they feel that if they could get that message out to the american people, they would know the democrats are overreaching. i m not sure u that voters across the country are catching the nuances of you know, this particular statement and that particular statement, so it s a little bit unclear whether that would make a difference this this impeachment and how americans feel about it. i wonder tim, what you think about this. because that s what republicans are choosing to focus on. on schiff, the process that democrats are going about this impeach. inquiry and yet you felt as we talk
that publicity, he might let him go. tim, in all fairness, president obama had four chief of staff in his first term. does that high turnover rate tell you anything about what the dynamics are inside the white house? well, i think the most, i think the key question for us right now is whether the chief of staff has any capacity to reign in the president when the president is is about to do something that is misconduct or impeachable. mick mulvaney apparently had no such ability to restrain the president. indeed, the way in which he respondeded to the media this past week indicates that he actually is in the same world view as the president. they share the same world view at about the propriety of knicks minxiningic politics and foreign affairs. he s a bad influence on the president, but will the president get rid of him? will he admit he s a bad influence? my sense is it s going to be hard to find people in washington who are going to want
graham and others, about the future of isis. is isis going to, you know, revive and become stronger in the region because of the trump administration s decision there? so, joe biden aggressively going after president trump. so again, alex, foreign policy has not been a central discussion during this democratic presidential primary. that could change a bit on tuesday night here in ohio when some of those questions could come forward. but again, it s getting to be crunch time for many of these candidates, including south bend, indiana, mayor pete buttigieg, who s still on stage behind me here. he ll be followed by six other candidates tonight, trying to rally the ohio faithful here in columbus. alex? all right, that debate just 48 hours away. and jeff zeleny will be right there. thank you very much, jeff. joining me now are cnn crime and justice reporter simone prokupecz, historian and former director of the nixon presidential library, tim neftali and cnn political analyst and the new
