BRIDGEPORT An 11-year-old boy frantically called 911 and then began performing CPR on his mother after police said she was choked into unconsciousness Sunday night by a man already on probation for threatening and assault.
Police said Israel Vargas, 37, was charged with first-degree strangulation, third-degree assault, violating a protective order, reckless endangerment and five counts of risk of injury to a child.
“This is an extremely serious case and the defendant has a history of this type of conduct,” said Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Tiffany Lockshier on Monday as Vargas watched his arraignment hearing via video from the lockup of the Golden Hill Street courthouse.
