With testing falling to 3,442 samples tested on Monday, 424 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the district.
Thripunithura recorded 22 new cases, Aluva and Edathala 16 each, and Thuravoor 14.
A total of 908 people tested negative, while 10,581 people are being treated for the infection. As many as 8,721 people are recovering at home, 160 at FLTCs, 241 at SLTCs, 47 patients at the Government Medical College Hospital and 73 patients are at PVS Hospital. On Monday, 143 new admissions were made to hospitals and FLTCs.

End to nearly five decades of wait

Ending a nearly five-decade-old wait, the Alappuzha bypass road was opened for traffic on Thursday.
The project was jointly inaugurated by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan through videoconference.
Speaking at the function, Mr. Gadkari said the Union government was constructing 35,000 km of the National Highway in the country as part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana. “Of this 1,234 km of road is being developed in Kerala. In addition to this, 119 km of port connectivity roads are being planned under the Bharamala and Sagarmala schemes in the State,” he said.

The district recorded 487 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, while testing dropped to 3,507 samples.
Five health workers have newly tested positive. Maradu recorded 44 new cases, while Thuravoor, Thrikkakara and Thripunithura registered 17 each.
With 616 recoveries on Monday, the active caseload stands at 10,767. A majority of people (8,709) are recovering at home, while 75 patients are admitted at the PVS Hospital, 45 at the Government Medical College Hospital and 820 at private hospitals.
Vaccination
At 19 centres in the district, 1,796 health workers took the Covishield shot on Monday.
While 156 health workers were inoculated at the MOSC Medical College Hospital, 116 took the injection at Aster Medcity, 111 at the Ernakulam General Hospital, 102 at Amrita Hospital, and 100 at the Mar Baselios Medical Mission Hospital. Vaccination also began at PVS Hospital, where 84 health workers took the vaccine

Ernakulam district recorded 767 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, taking the active case load to 10,200.
Of them, 41 tested positive at Kalady, 30 each at Karukutty and Nedumbassery, 26 at Rayamangalam, and 22 at Thuravoor. Five health workers are among the newly infected.
A total of 23,520 people remain in quarantine in the district.
As many as 427 recoveries were recorded on Sunday. The active case load of the district has crossed 10,000 again, with 10,200 people currently being treated for the infection.

First phase of immunisation to last two months
The district is a all set to administer the Covishield vaccine to 1,200 health workers on Saturday.
Vaccination will take place at 12 centres, beginning at 10 a.m. on the first day. Vials of the vaccine, which were stored at the vaccine store at the Ernakulam General Hospital, have been transported to the 12 centres. A dry run was completed at these centres on Friday.
