TWO juvenile inmates are on the run after making a brazen escape from Qalakabusha Correctional Facility in Empangeni on Thursday (yesterday).
Department of Correctional Services KZN spokesperson Thulani Mdluli confirmed to the ZO that Mbongiseni Mpho Thusini (24) and Mfaniseni Mthembu (25) are still at large.
Thusini was serving a life sentence for murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, theft, possession of illegal firearms and ammunition and a further charge for human trafficking.

KZN s Correctional Services Department says a rape complaint has been filed against a male official at the Westville Female Correctional Centre in Durban.

The official is alleged to have had sexual relations with an inmate.
The department says he s been suspended pending the investigation.
Spokesperson, Thulani Mdluli says the department is treating the matter as a rape case because of the vulnerability of the inmate involved. The investigation - which we are waiting in anticipation - is going to give us more information of what actually happened because initially, the offender didn t say that he raped her.
The 31-year-old man, whose name cannot be published for fear of being killed, told the Sunday Tribune that five armed men with rifles shouted his name after breaking the door lock.
A senior prison official in South Africa is under investigation following allegations that he had an affair with a prisoner at the Durban Westville Female Correctional Centre.
Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) officials and the department of correctional service spokesperson in the province have confirmed the allegations.
The incident however comes at a time when a female prison warden who was filmed in a sex romp with a male prisoner at Ncome Correctional Facility was fired last week.
Department of Correctional Services provincial spokesperson, Thulani Mdluli, said an internal investigation was underway but did not diverge more information on whether the suspect has been placed on suspension.
