the pension payouts are astronomical. what we are doing here in illinois not only in illinois but nationwide is we trying to implement pension reform. we fed to reform the system or it will collapse. alisyn: no wonder cities and states are going bankrupt when there is this sort of discrepancy between what you contribute and what you, then, cash in. how did the system get so broken? guest: well, currently the teachers only pay 9 percent into their salaries, their pensions, and nothing for medical. so all we are asking for, for reform, in illinois is to increase the pay out from 9 percent to 19 percent and to pay for what of their medical. we also are asking for all new government employees to not have pensions, to only go into 401(k) s and social security. alisyn: but let me understand the math. because if you increase their
