‘Don’t be misled.’
The Archbishop of Blantyre Archdiocese, His Grace Thomas Luke Msusa has applauded President Chakwera for taking up the right steps in ensuring that Malawians are safe in the face of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.
President Chakwera volunteered himself to be the first citizen to receive the vaccine and he got his first dose at the Field hospital in the colonial capital city of Zomba.
Speaking at Njuli Roman Catholic Paris, in the commercial city of Blantyre on Sunday where President Chakwera attended the Vocation Sunday Celebrations, Msusa lauded the Malawi leader for leading the way from the front and for being the first person to take the AstraZeneca jab, a vaccine for coronavirus.

The church made its position through a statement issued Thursday by the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM).
The Catholic bishops in this statement acknowledge that there are fears among many Malawians on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine but say through interactions and wide consultations they have had with medical experts they are convinced that the vaccine is safe hence.
Reads part of the statement “We are aware of the fears and mixed feelings that some people might have towards COVID-19 vaccine especially on safety and effectiveness of the vaccine that the Government of Malawi has received. We note such sentiments with care and wish to remind all people that the Church has always shared the government’s concern for the health of people.
This is according to Malawiâs Information Minister Gospel Kazako.
Kazako said the former president will receive the vaccine at his BCA residence in Blantyre at 10a.
Muluzi will get vaccinated to days after the official launch of Covid-19 vaccine roll out which was presided over by President Lazarus Chakwera in Zomba at Zomba State House Covid-19 Field Hospital.
JB, getting her first jab
Former Heads of states Muluzi and Peter Mutharika failed to show up to the launch of Covid-19 vaccine roll out despite being invited by president Chakwera.
Joyce Banda and her husband Richard Banda made themselves available and received their first jab.
Former President Dr. Joyce Banda and retired Chief Justice Richard Banda SC have all been vaccinated against COVID-19, a pandemic which has claimed over 1000 Malawians across the country.
The two received the vaccine at Zomba COVID-19 field hospital where President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera launched the vaccine administration.
Apart from Joyce Banda, Thomas Luke Msusa of the Archdiocese of Blantyre and Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara have also received the vaccine.
Over 1 million Malawians are expected to receive the vaccine in the first phase.
The first phase targets frontline health workers, government top officials, teachers and the elderly.
