little naive to think that was going to happen. fox news got what it wanted in that it s not going to have to broadcast apologies every hour on the hour saying we re sorry, the election was legit that s what a lot of us were hoping they got away without having to do that. they re going have to pay a huge settlement, but for them i think they think it s a victory. for those who think fox is out of the woods, not yet. the smartmatic lawsuit is coming around the bend and they re asking for more than a billion dollars more than dominion asked for. so fox news may still be in trouble yet. let s go there, dave. tell us more about that smartmatic case. that one has not made the headlines i think domeppian has. i think a lot of our viewers probably less familiar with it break down what it is and how strong you think it is smartmatic is based in london and cacompetitor to dominion and this case will be in new york where defamation is probably better for defendants
much better. as i was preparing today to give the opening we never got to give, i was reminded of the hell that the dominion employees went through and continue to go through to this day. money is accountability, and we got that today from fox. but we re not done yet we ve got some other people who have some accountability coming towards them fox s lawyers did not talk to reporters yesterday, but the network did put out a statement which i ll try to get through with a straight face quote, we acknowledge the court s rulings finding certain claims about dominion to be false. this settlement reflects fox s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards we are hopeful that our decision to resolve this dispute with dominion amicably allows the country to move forward from these issues we should note the settlement does not require fox to issue an on-air apology it s not yet clear if there ll be any other consequences for the network that will impact
their coverage going forward the deal does not end fox s legal issues over false claims and voter fraud, though. it s still facing a $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit from smartmatic back in february a new york appeals court ruled that the suit from that voting system company could indeed move forward. so we may have more of this in the future joining us now state attorney for palm beach county dave erenberg good to see you. there were delays in the case. there was certainly speculation there were 11th hour talks that bore fruit what s your reaction to the decision and the settlement? jonathan, i think a lot of people wanted the real accountability, fox news, rupert murdoch, tucker carlson showing up in court under oath and their lies being exposed to the world, but that day is not going to come it s hard to expect a private corporation to save our democracy, so we probably were a
