Haverhill Exchange Club Establishes U S Flag Retirement Drop Box in Bradford for Dignified Disposal

The Haverhill Exchange Club wants residents to know there is a proper method of retiring the American flag and the service club wants to help. Exchange Club President Thea Tsagaris said the club’s “greatest priorities are to celebrate our country by honoring and respecting the American flag, promoting pride in our country and appreciation of Americas’ Freedoms.” In keeping with those priorities, she said, the club recently partnered with Driscoll Funeral Home to dedicate a U.S. Flag Retirement Drop Box. Patrick Driscoll said the box is available to the public 24-hours-a-day and there will be an event each year around Flag Day.

(AP) Haverhill is planning to honor its veterans as well as city residents currently serving in the military this Memorial Day with banners throughout the downtown area. The Hometown Heroes program is being led by the Haverhill Exchange Club with support from Veterans Services Officer Luis Santiago and the VFW and AmVets organizations. “The banner program serves as a visual reminder of the sacrifice our hometown heroes past and present have and continue to make,” Exchange Club President Thea Tsagaris told The Eagle-Tribune. The banners are made of vinyl and measure 2 feet by 4 feet. Each one includes the image of the person honored, their name and a brief biography.

Residents and businesses have until Thursday, March 25, to participate in the Haverhill Exchange Club’s Hometown Heroes banner program. The program calls for hanging 24- by 48-inch banners in downtown Haverhill, honoring veterans, active duty, reserve and National Guard members. Banners will be displayed from Memorial Day through Veterans Day and may features family of business name acknowledgements. Following the event, banners may be kept as a keepsake.
