what happened and the white house said that it was led by two men of unimpeachable expertise and credibility. but you have a problem with the way it was done because you say it s absolutely incomplete. it was supposed to be the end all and be all and every reporter was supposed to shut up when it was a.r.b. reports but it was shoddily done. mr. pickering didn t have investigative experience and it s shown by how they carried out this investigation. first they didn t interview hillary clinton. how could you do that? you didn t interview the secretary of state? there were other witnesses who weren t interviewed. then when mr. pickering was asked to be interviewed twice by the a.r.b., they didn t interview him. they didn t have a stepbstenogr.
this. bret: well, that was the president this week talking about the benghazi investigation called the arb, the accountability review board. here s what politica politico fd about that statement, the board did not look at who perpetrated the attack, nor probe the administration s public communications afterwards. no less than authority than the board s co-chairman undercut obama s sweeping claim that the board investigated every element. on balance, we rate obama s claim mostly false. okay. so within the past hour and a half, we received these, 94 emails from the white house. some very interesting tidbits in here as james rosen has reported on. one of them from victoria nuland, then the spokesman from the state department, saying these don t resolve all my
earlier this week. has anyone from the clinton pamp or from the obama administration reached out to jow? not one. not 6 the interview? no. do you feel that congress shares the same urgency that you feel when it comes to getting to the bottom of what happened in benghazi? i imagine some people in congress do. but the ones that have control of it do not. i don t know. i don t have my answers. whoever is stopping it is stopping it. people who have looked into this, including the advisory review board, the arb, say there weren t troops in position to help those individuals in the annex that night. they re the military. everybody had guns. everybody should have been able that s their job. my son was doing his job. he was not helped. what was the last
interviewed by the arb. mark thompson, a top council terrorism official that was asked to be interviewed was not. i was interested to hear that they did not probe secretary clinton in detail, because obviously she was the decisionmaker at the state department. luckily for america, senator dick durbin was standing by to set the record straight. thomas pickering appeared on your show this morning. i wish he would have appeared at the hearing last week. he asked to be there. he should have been there. he s the most respected diplomat in washington. he, together with admiral mullen, went through a lengthy review of the security aspect of this. they came up with a recommendation for changes, which were accepted by secretary clinton and president obama. unfortunately, this has been caught up in the 2016 presidential campaign. this effort to go after hillary clinton. the reason she wasn t interviewed was she didn t have any direct-line responsibility for the decisions that were made. but
as i said, i think the bigger issue is the broader issue is why are we getting revelations so late, what is animating gregory hicks to come forward now, and propelling himself in the middle of this he had largely been interviewed by the arb, the review board, and others, but nonetheless there are dimensions that make it feel and look like the white house and state department haven t been completely forth coming, and the bottom like is they should, because i don t think a change or a difference in tactics is anything that should be hidden from. and might as well get it all out there, put it all out there, so we may by chasing the fact that concern with secrecy or consistency is keeping this from coming occupy. do i think there s a high crime there? no, i don t, but i do find it to be the story that won t go away, not because there was anything duplicitous or terrible done,
