Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan (GSHOM) congratulates Barb Henton, of Midland, for being presented the Girl Scout Thanks Badge, one of the highest honors an adult can be awarded in Girl Scouting. The Thanks Badge honors an individual whose ongoing commitment, leadership, and service have had an exceptional, measurable impact on meeting the Key Priority goals of Girls Scouts Heart of Michigan or the entire Girl Scout Movement and is separate from service previously awarded.
Henton, a lifetime member of Girl Scouts, has served on the GSHOM Board of Trustees since 2008, having served six terms as an officer. She serves on the Member Advisory Committee and acts as an effective mentor to National Delegates.
Its duties would be taken over by the three Scout districts which made up its membership. Long-service awards were presented at the end of the final meeting to people who had been with the Scouting movement for many years. Awards for 25 years service were present red to Eric Lewin, Roy Scanlan, Jim Molyneux, Jack Spoor, Joan Cathcart, Tom Franks, John Watts, Sid Bundy and Denis Stanswood. Fifteen-year awards were presented to Molly Graham, John Graham, Ian Johnson, Bernard Parker, John Olliver and David Fisher. Mr Parker was also given a Thanks Badge for his work as secretary and treasurer. In February, 1995, it was bandages and splints at the ready when Barrow Scouts took part in a first-aid competition held at the British Red Cross headquarters in Warwick Street, Barrow.
