The ANC in the Eastern Cape says the province is being shortchanged by National Treasury and is calling again for national government to stop holding the province back, and to massively restructure its provincial funding model. The party believes the allocation of money is out of balance with the constitution which mandates the government to give the province enough money to deliver adequate services to the province’s residents.
Ten ANC-run municipalities in the Eastern Cape are among 11 flagged as high risk, dysfunctional councils which need to be placed under section 139 administration. This dire message was contained in a state of local government report tabled in parliament on Tuesday by the portfolio committee for co-operative governance and traditional affairs (Cogta) chair Thamsanqa Dodovu.

Home Affairs vows to speed up Border Management Authority

South Africa’s Border Management Authority (BMA) will start functioning by at least September this year, home affairs director general Tommy Makhode told parliament’s select committee on security and justice on Wednesday.
The BMA was proclaimed by President Cyril Ramaphosa in July 2020 to fulfil the country’s need for “integrated and coordinated border management in accordance with the Constitution, international and domestic law…”.
