Spine surgery usually conjures up images of complicated open procedures that lead to debilitating pain, lengthy recovery periods and ugly post-surgery scars. But experts at Medcare say that advances in medical technology have resulted in comparatively comfortable operations that cause minimal pain.
“Many patients think that the pain from recovery is so unbearable that it is best to just deal with the spinal pain they are experiencing. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth,” explains Dr Sameh Abofotouh, Specialist Orthopaedic Surgery, Centre of Excellence – Spine Surgery at Medcare Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital. “Nowadays, we perform minimally invasive spine surgery, or MISS, which involves small incisions placed strategically to allow full access to the spine.”
