committee? well, the committee hasn t reached a conclusion on either one of those individuals. there are pros and cons. and we ve had you know, the committee has been a consensus committee. we ve never had any acrimony, and we reach conclusions together. and so that process is under way. i want to ask you very quickly if i can about these text messages that our colleagues and friends over at cnn reported between mike lee, chip roy, texting mark meadows really in the aftermath of the election leading up to january 6th. can you, a, confirm the veracity of those texts that have been reported and, b, shed any light on whether they tell us anything important about where your investigation is going or whether they just kind of tell us more about the incoming mark meadows was getting? well, the policy of the committee, unless there s a vote of the committee, we don t
they think it s something for the executive and legislative to work out on themselves. and they haven t had in the past. they played hardball, which it would be, if merrick garland got prosecuted. having said that, i wish he would. because it would put more pressure on these witnesses to talk. let me, hayes, let me turn to another element of reporting here. and that was the republicans chip roy, senator mike lee, texting mark meadows about the 2020 elections, and overturning it. and i want to read for you one from senator ali. he says, if a very small handful of states where to have their legislatures appoint alternatives lace of delegates, there could be a path. i just spoke to congresswoman jackie speier last hour, i m not sure if you got her not. she said that these text signal that the committee has a treasure trove of incriminating documents. what do you make of that? your reaction? gee agree with the congresswoman? i do, actually. i think that it s fascinating. i mean, mark m
won the electoral college votes, and let congress work it out. they were trying to exploit that loophole, and it shows how widespread indeed this belief inside the party that the election, the will to voters of something that can be worked around, when it comes to the presidency, and who could win an election. so i think that, i m very glad that mark meadows is as popular as he was on the time, because he has provided so much to work with for the committee. i was can i just say, i love the trajectory of the texts. they all stole a car, and they re all riding. this is great. such a great idea! great, and there s something like, oh crap, there s cops. i m jumping out of the window. like what are you doing? [laughs] i was gonna say, with a number of people have come forward to text mark meadows after the election, i feel like we were the only four people who did not get a text message from mark meadows. so [laughs] i wonder what are we doing

they say they didn t have any idea january 6th was going to turn into. they didn t know what was going to happen, that sort of thing. does that sort of negate this, that they were talking about this in november? it does. these texts on november laid out almost exactly what was to happen the coming weeks. they tried to prevail upon local state ledgislators, and ultimately they tried to disrupt the counting of the electoral ballots on january 6th. these texts don t talk about violence or storming the capitol, but these texts set the roadmap for what led up to that day. and what about legal exposure here. is donald trump jr. in any trouble legally? what about mark meadows? what are they looking at here, if anything? so, i would break that into two parts. first of all, january 6th, i think this underscores the need for the january 6th committee to at least try to talk to donald trump jr. they ve not subpoenaed him,
