ONTARIO
Citizen and Ontario Public Works Committee member Jackson Fox brought a citizen petition before the Ontario City Council at its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday night.
Fox had composed a letter outlining his concerns and remitted that letter to the council for their perusal. He then read the letter in which he states that the Ontario City Council, in 2017, made the decision to impose a sales tax âin an obvious effort of non-transparency without a vote of the people.â
The tax that Fox was referring to was move to adopt a 1% sales tax in the City of Ontario.
Resolution #2017-139, which called for an election to amend Ontarioâs city charter to include the sales tax, was âpassed and adopted by the Ontario City Councilâ on Dec. 19, 2017. The vote to adopt was unanimous, with Councilors Tessa Winebarger, Dan Capron, Norm Crume, Betty Carter, Ramon Palomo, Marty Justus and Mayor Ron Verini in favor of the measure.
