New documentary on the history of UK rave out this month

A new documentary on the history of the UK rave is set to be released this month. Directed by MOBO-nominated Hugo Jenkins, Better Days: The Story of UK Rave will be available through Amazon Music s streaming service from 28th May, and will explore 30 years of raving in Britain, spanning the late-80s Second Summer of Love through to concerns surrounding illegal gatherings during the pandemic, and questions about the future of the scene. Artists and figures featured include veterans such as Orbital s Paul Hartnoll, Colin Dale, Terry Farley and Luke Unabomber, alongside contemporary artists like Afrodeutsche, Prospa and TSHA. Past DJ Mag cover stars Denis Sulta and Sherelle also make appearances, as do a number of soundsystems, promoters and free party crews. The documentary also features a bespoke score by Overmono, alongside two exclusive cuts: Orbital ‘Chime’ (Special Request Remix) and Dance System Better Days feat. Rush Davis

Italian house DJ Claudio Coccoluto dies, aged 59

Legendary Italian house DJ Claudio Coccoluto has died, aged 59.  The longstanding DJ and columnist passed away this morning, 2nd March, following a “serious illness”, Italian publication La Repubblica reports.  One of Italy’s most well-known house DJs, Coccoluto started DJing at the age of 13 in his father’s home appliance shop in his hometown of Gaeta. Eventually making his way onto local radio, the young DJ was caught up in the acid house revolution, and ended up landing residencies at the Seven Up club in Gianola and at the Histeria in Rome. He became one of Italy’s foremost proponents of house music, and went on to become the first European DJ to play the prestigious Sound Factory in New York in 1991.

Pete Heller Pete Heller is an English electronic and house music producer from Brighton. He is recognised in the dance community for his solo work, and his remixes with frequent collaborator Terry Farley. As a duo they have released popular tunes under the names Heller & Farley Project (or Farley & Heller), Fire Island plus The Look and Feel. In 1996, they released Ultra Flava, a #3 hit on the US Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. The track also peaked at #22 in the UK Singles Chart. In November 2000 he remixed Moby s song South Side which charted at #14 on the U.S. Billboard Top 200, making it Moby s most successful single in the US.
