Banking operations were paralysed in Public Sector Banks (PSBs) across the old undivided Khammam district on Monday, on the first day of the two-day strike launched by the employees owing allegiance to the constituent unions of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU).
The UFBU has called for a two-day nationwide strike on Monday and Tuesday in protest against the Central government’s proposal to privatise two PSBs. As the total cropped area increased significantly, Telangana is all set to see a record output of over one crore tonnes of paddy in the rabi season.
For the 2020-21 agricultural season, the total paddy output would be 2.5 crore tonnes as kharif, too, saw a significant increase in area.
In the rabi season, the paddy area went up to 52 lakh acres, going up by one-and-half times the normal area of 22 lakh acres. “This could yield about one crore tonnes, taking the total output in the two seasons to 2.5 crore tonnes. Fear unauthorised Bt-3 cultivation may increase 10-15% during next kharif season
Fears over farmers cultivating unauthorised and illegal genetically-modified cottonseed called Bollgard-III or ‘Bt-3’, haunts the seed industry and farmers leaders as cottonseed units gear up for the Kharif season starting June.
Industry sources said that the illegal seeds could comprise 10-15 per cent of the total cottonseed area in the country during the next kharif. “It was a bit lower last year but on good demand, they might swarm the market with huge volumes,” a top executive of a seed company, on the condition of anonymity, told
