A closed-door meeting about Shelby County vaccine problems might ve skirted Sunshine Law Katherine Burgess, Memphis Commercial Appeal © Joris Ray, SCS A woman given the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, February 15, 2021.
A private meeting of county commissioners, attorneys and the director of the Shelby County Health Department could have been a violation of the state’s Open Meetings Act, said Deborah Fisher, executive director of the Tennessee Coalition for Open Government.
“If they’re hearing about something they’re going to be making some big decisions on, that should be open,” Fisher said. “They were getting information and considering what their obligations were under the law in terms of vaccine distribution, they were considering the political response, so I don’t see how it can’t not be required to be an open meeting.”
