It was a hot, humid evening as the Sharks circled the tank, warm-ups delayed by thunder, the racers sharpened their teeth and sunned their fins in anticipation of the meet ahead. Wednesday, July 7
th, just shy of 6:30 p.m. the Lake Monticello Swim Team (LMST) Sharks competed in a home meet against the Glenmore Country Club Tornadoes. Due to COVID-19, this season there have been some adjustments to protocol for safety to get these avid swimmers back in the water after missing the 2020 swim season.
The meets have been divided between the younger and older swimmers to reduce the number of people gathering. On this evening, it was the younger group, ages 10 and under, competing in their second meet of the season. Families from both teams gathered poolside, spilling out into the lawn surrounding the Ashlawn Clubhouse. SU should follow CDC mask guidelines instead of making up its own

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its guidelines on April 27, stating that those who are fully vaccinated don’t need to wear a mask outside unless they are in certain crowded settings or venues.
Syracuse University has yet to change its mask mandate to match these guidelines. The university should allow fully vaccinated students, staff and faculty to go outside on campus without masks in specific settings.
Throughout the pandemic, SU has adhered to CDC guidelines and COVID-19 protocols. The dining halls recently reopened indoor seating after weeks of being closed to stop the spread of the virus, and students still must sit 6 feet apart in classrooms.

MONTICELLO â Twin Lakes scored four quick runs in the first inning to hand Hoosier Conference rival Rensselaer Central a 6-1 loss and salvage a split of a doubleheader on Monday night, April 19.
The loss snapped a five-game win streak for the Bombers (6-2, 2-2 in the HC), who outlasted the Indians, 8-5, in nine innings in game one.
The Indians (5-8, 2-4) jumped on RCHS junior starter Teagan Brown in the first inning, collecting four hits and coaxing four walks. Brown went five innings, allowing six runs â five earned â on seven hits. He struck out 12 and walked four.

WINAMAC â Rensselaer Centralâs baseball team won its fourth straight game and second straight in Pulaski County with a 21-3 romp of host Winamac at Winamacâs Town Park.
The Bombers (5-1) blew the game open with a six-run second inning and shortened the game to five innings with an eight-run fourth and a four-run fifth.
They managed 12 hits, including a 3 for 4 effort from Jacob Pickering, who had a triple and a double and drove in five runs. Austin Francis was 2 for 4 with a grand slam home run and a double and Tommy Boyles was 2 for 3 with a double.
