Photo: Clarksville Now/Tavia Smith Update, 10:15 p.m.:Clarksville Police shot and killed the man after he shot a woman and then fired at officers, according to a news release. At about 8:15 p.m., police responded to a domestic call in the 1000 block of Hedge Apple Drive, where a woman had been shot, according to Detective Michael Patterson. When police arrived, the man opened fire on them, Patterson said. The officers returned fire, hitting the man, and he died from his injuries. The woman was transported to the hospital and her condition was unknown.

Smith is originally from Athens, Alabama, and spent half of his childhood in Haddon Township, New Jersey. He began his journalism career after getting his master’s degree in English at Auburn University.

However, two weeks before this milestone, the COVID-19 pandemic began and took precedence as we provided daily news coverage of the many changes rapidly taking place. The Clarksville Now office closed temporarily for safety and cleaning, but reporters continued to work daily to provide your news now. A year later, COVID-19 is still a part of our news coverage, but if we learned anything in 2020, it’s to never takes time and life for granted. So we thought, what the hay, let’s celebrate year 11. It’s better late than never, right?
