This photo is inspired by a group photo of original Black Wall Street business owners from before 1921. In partnership with the Bob Dylan Center and Woody Guthrie Center, the project marks 100th anniversary of Tulsa s Black Wall Street massacre. The 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre, one of the most significant yet long-suppressed chapters in Black history, will be commemorated on the May 28 album Fire in Little Africa. Featuring original material by a collective of emerging Oklahoma hip-hop artists, the 21-track collection will be released through Black Forum/Motown Records in partnership with Tulsa’s Bob Dylan Center and Woody Guthrie Center.

Public Oversight Committee Discusses Exhumation Options In Race Massacre Graves Investigation

City of Tulsa The committee overseeing the investigation searching for mass graves from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre met virtually Thursday to discuss their options regarding potential exhumation of remains found in Oaklawn Cemetery last year. In a presentation to committee members, Tulsa Deputy Mayor Amy Brown said that to proceed with an exhumation, the city would need to receive approval from the Oklahoma State Department of Health on a plan for reinterment of any human remains. As of now, Brown said, since the identities of the bodies discovered last year are unknown, the city can serve as next-of-kin to file for disinterment and reinterment, and the likely quickest route would be a proposal to exhume and then reinter remains in Oaklawn Cemetery.
