When Tara Shannon sketched a drawing of a rabbit and a bear and wrote about being afraid and needing comfort she was just trying to cope.
She was thinking about the death of her parents. She was reckoning with cancer treatments, the loss of her job, and feeling emotions of anxiety, depression, and grief.
“I put music out all the time, I play in front of lots of people, but this was different,” Tara Shannon said in an interview to discuss her book. “People may like your music or they may not, but a book is like your mind.”
