Flemington Electric Program Promises to Lower Rates, Increase Renewable Energy

By LIZ JOHNSON Credits: Audrey Blumberg December 21, 2020 at 9:00 AM FLEMINGTON, NJ - Flemington councilman Christopher Runion estimates that residents will save up to $100 a year on electric rates now that the borough has joined the Hunterdon Area Energy Cooperative. The council approved an ordinance to join the program that includes 16 municipalities throughout Hunterdon County, and parts of Mercer and Morris counties. The borough already belongs to such a program for its municipal energy usage. The Hunterdon Area Energy Cooperative acts as a broker to find the best electric rate for residents of the16 municipalities it represents with an emphasis on providing both low rates and more renewal energy sources than a rate payer would normally receive if shopping for rates on their own.
