TAMPA, Fla. â The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine is being distributed once again after a brief pause over concerns of severe blood clots. People in the Tampa Bay area are already rolling up their sleeves for this vaccine, while local doctors explain what you need to know about the J&J shot.
Both Laurie and Leland Massee got their J&J dose at the Tampa Greyhound Track vaccination site Monday.
âYou donât have to come back for the second shot, and itâs supposed to do the same thing, so why not?â said Laurie.

Florida s FEMA hubs resumed giving the one-shot vaccine after a federal pause was lifted. The Orlando site said about 90% of the daily supply went unused. A similar story played out in Miami and Tampa.
The Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine was again available Sunday at Florida’s federally supported inoculation sites, but the rollout was met with low demand.
Turnout was so low following an 11-day pause of the single-shot vaccine at the Orlando FEMA site that about 90% of the daily supply went unused. Health officials say they administered 268 doses of the 3,000 available doses at Valencia College’s West Campus.

TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Greyhound resumed the use of the single-shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine at 7 a.m. Sunday, April 25, 2021, after an 11-day pause due to reports of rare adverse effects.
The FDA and the CDC paused the J&J vaccine because they identified a total of 15 blood clot cases among nearly 8 million recipients of the shot.
Health experts say the FDA and CDC were doing their due diligence to make sure the vaccine was safe. The FDA Commissioner said this week that the vaccine meets its guidelines for safety and effectiveness.
